This is a picture taken resently with my new Nikon 50mm f1.4 but I was close enough to the stage that I was able to use simply f2.8 for the shot. Lesson learned on taken subject wearing mostly white under spot light condition is to set your exposure compensation to -0.7 to -1.0 cause the white area will be overexpose otherwise. As well, I've used center weight metering for more accurate exposure on the the subject. The background here isn't that interesting but the subject pose was pretty good. She is standing with one leg on the tip of her toe. Even for a split second, it was amazing to see.
Granted, I would love to get the famous Nikon AFS 70-200mm F2.8 VR zoom lens to use when I can't get close to the stage as I did in the future and I don't have to sit on the cold hard concrete step for an hour to take the shot above. As well, the zoom lens allows me to take close up shot of the subject so I can isolate the unwanted background noise.
