Bang & Olufsen products have been know for its style on form and "Wow" factor. D. Lougheed, a friend of mine, recently got the latest B&O earphones, and I was lucky enough to give this baby a try. Is it worth the 250CAD dollars that I would pay at the Bay Bloor Audio store in Toronto? Is the form and function equally weighted in this product?
When you look at any thing made by B&O, one can't help but look at it as a piece of industrial art. The earphone looks and feels very elegant yet not fragile. It's made to impress from its form and you'll sure to attract stares from people on the street. With its high price tag, it will keep it from being too common and will remain at its high priced prestige level.
The metal construction of the earpiece should last you a life time versus the typical plastic build earphones. Though, the only concern I have with it, as with any earphone out there, is the eventual problem with the wire getting loosed or damaged. This wouldn't be a product one would carelessly put in any bag or pocket with the wire all tangled up, and luckily B&O was kind enough to include a hard leather pouch with the earphones for storage.
So what do I think of the ten minutes test time with the earphones? I tested it playing with Celine Dion type of verbal mid range music as well as classical music and I'm happy to say it sounded very good. Impressive in fact on its output in the mid to high frequency ranges. I also used my Paul Van Dyke music to test its ability to handle the low heavy based sound. Though it didn't rock the house down producing rich base output like the Koss headphone (this one is function over form) that I have, it was acceptable. At least I didn't hear any crackling and hissing when I turn the volume way up with this earphone.
I would recommend this product if you have the extra money to pamper yourself, but if your budget is tight, there are cheaper alternatives. However, nothing beats Bang & Olufsen on its design and form in their products, and this particular earphone functions quite admirably. I heard the earphone was showcased in the "Minority Report" movie. That's pretty cool...
Cheers,
Wuju nonono!
