I've been thinking about going to Japan for the longest time and this may be the year considering there is the Expo 2005 happening right now at Aichi Japan. There are so many things to see and do there from what I saw in the CTV morning news.
You can go to their official website here. The theme of the Expos is all about the environment and technology (my favourite) around us. Off course, there wouldn't be a big event in Japan without the official show mascots. The Expo Aichi mascots are Kiccoro, the Forest Child and Morizo, the Forest Grand Father.

Alot of the pavilions are run by various car manufacturers and electronic giants in Japan. Toyota pavilion show includes highlights such as; the human like musical robots that play trumpets and drums all by themselves on the stage, to the i-unit one man next generation vehicle of the future with cool blue neon lights everywhere that one can imagine in science fiction films. Then there is the virtual forest - Nature Contact from Hitachi Group's pavilion that sounded very interesting, however the lineups for the show can be as long as 6 hours during the day.
Aside from standing in lines potentially half the time in the Expo, I would also have to use up my Aeroplan and Hilton points I collected over the years travelling aboard from my global consulting work life. I always wished my previous employer had a client in Japan so I might have gotten a free trip working there but that's behind me now.
So I'm back to where I started of wanting to go to Japan but I guess the time isn't here yet. However, there's still a slim hope that I'll be in Japan this year if I win the CTV's "Send Me to Japan" contest for the Expo. Crossing my fingers and hope for the best. :)
